Mission Beach is a small community on a stretch of sandbar along the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. Originally the city was just a summer getaway in the 30's and 40's with cottages dotting the beach. Not until the problem of building permanent structures on the beach was solved did the city start to attract residents willing to purchase a home. Today the area is so popular that it is the most densely developed residential community in San Diego. Its location is perfect for travelers because of its close proximity to all the best attractions so you won't have to go far to entertain the kids.

All the outdoor activities in Mission Beach are what you would typically find in Southern California. Sunbathing, swimming, horseshoes, surfing, biking, and skateboarding are just the beginning. On weekends a local performance group called "Skate This" executes skate tricks and dance moves on rollerblades and traditional skates for the public. There are outdoor basketball and beach volleyball courts to be enjoyed too. Weekly and monthly rentals of cabins are also available in the summer. The nightlife in Mission Beach is about as relaxed as you can get.

Most of the neighborhood hangouts are beach style gathering places where you will can enjoy a cold drink and a hot meal while staring out at the waves. Speaking of waves,if you want to test your surfing skills while you get a bite to eat than the Wave House is where you should be. This beachside bar and grill features and 8 foot tall barreling artificial wave and a smaller version called the flowrider. Mission Beach may be small, but you will sure have a whole lot of fun when you visit.
